Brief Project Description

Astra was selected as the design-builder of the Capitol Square Extension project, designed to alleviate traffic congestion for everyone, create a more inviting scenic vista of Capitol Hill, and enhance the Capitol with pedestrian-friendly roadway and crosswalks with new traffic lanes, upgrades traffic signals and adds an overall enhanced pedestrian experience. Astra demolished the parking deck and utility bridge and replaces them with a new road that will extend the Square (Mitchell Street) east of Washington Street all the way to the intersection of Jesse Hill Jr. Drive & Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
